Lucas Miles Audio specialize in modifying and upgrading audio components.By replacing specific, generic, stock components in your CD, DVD, SACD, DA or AD convertor, pre -amp or other audio component the sonic performance of the unit will be substantially enhanced.
The areas we upgrade are the analog output stage, the power supply, the digital clock in digital gear and in tube gear upgrading the coupling capacitors has significant advantages.
An analysis of of the different upgrades are as follows..
The Analog Output stage
In most mass produced audio components, CD,DVD or Pro-audio units like soundcards, mixers,FX etc, you'll find the output stage populated with op-amps.These place a large emphasis on the sound character of your machine. The most common of these generic op-amps are the 4560, 4580, 5532, 5534, TL072, TL074. These op-amps tend to lack detail and depth in imaging. The mids sound harsh and the bass is not clearly defined .Manufacturers use these op-amps because they are cheap and keep production costs down.
Upgrading to audiophile standard op-amps like the OPA627, AD825,AD8066, LM 4562 will greatly improve the sound of your component. These mods are very straight-forward and a cost effective means of achieving a far better sound. |

The Power Supply
Upgrading power supplies consists of replacing the generic electrolytic capacitors with higher quality units from Black Gate , Vishay BC Components, Jensen or Elna .Most noticeably this improves the bass depth and definition and overall giving better resolution. Also replacing the stock rectifying diodes with fast-switching Hex-fred types lowers the noise floor. |
The Digital Clock
Replacing the cheap ,stock crystal oscillator in your digital player with a precision digital clock will substantially improve the detail and depth of your component. The soundstage will have far greater resolution with precision placement of instruments and vocals. The sound will become alot less fatigueing to listen to and you'll listen longer and hear things you've never heard before. |
