The ARX Afterburner is a single/dual ch. compressor limiter manufactured in Melb.Australia.In its stock form it easily competes with imported boutique brand units costing 2-3 times the price.For this reason it has found its place in many studios and P.A rigs.One great feature of this unit is its mono mode which splits the frequency band,allowing 1 channel to compress the low frequencies and the other channel to compress the high band, both with independant controls. On vocals this feature is an absolute killer delivering that sleeky, tight vocal sound that sits beautifully in the mix .

The unit we upgraded here was built 1996.We upgraded the power supply, replacing the generic caps with larger , higher quality caps from ROE.This gave the unit more depth and better bass response.Next we changed all the generic signal / coupling caps to Elna audio caps. This made the sound clearer and more deatailed. Lastly we changed the input and outputs gain stages op-amps.These were NEC pc4574 quad op-amps and were upgraded to the recently released National Semiconductor LME 49740 .This was the icing on the cake .These high performance audio op-amps further enhanced the detail and depth and gave the units sound a sense of air and refinement. The unit now easily outperforms imports 2-3 times the price.
