62' VIBROVERB

LUCAS MILES AUDIO

AUSTRALIA

The Fender 62 Vibroverb is a rarity. This highly collectible amp was produced in 1962-63 with only about 500-600 units produced. It was the first Fender to have an onboard reverb circuit .It also featured a vibrato circuit that modulated the output tubes bias. Speakerwise it came with 2 x 10" speakers whereas later vibroverbs had the option of 15" drivers. The rich creamy tone is attributed to lower plate voltages on the tubes which gives slightly less gain .This also gives quicker break-up , a tone generally preferred by players. Stevie Ray Vaughan was a notable user of Vibroverbs to generate his sound.

So if you cant afford the real deal.....

Here we replicate the 62 Vibroverb 6G16 design.Utilising point to point wiring t'out with component layout on fibreboards, our components include the Sozo Bluemoulded coupling caps, carbon composition resistors as well as a few Allen Bradley NOS types, Mercury Magnetics O/P transformer ,Sprague Atom electros ...all the good stuff.

The layout / schematic is here

First we start by loading the fibreboards
To the left we have the filter capacitors board, and to the right the underside layout with transformers mounted and valves in place.

The left pic shows , wiring in V1 the normal ch. preamp tube, V2 the bright ch., V3 the reverb driver.

The right pic shows wiriing in V4 the reverb return, V5 the vibrato , V6 the phase inverter.

The left pic shows wiring in the power transformer , the O/P tubes and the rectifier tube

On the right and overview of the main board.

Here we have the amp electronics complete and ready to test.

On the bench after about 100 hours burn in....what does she sound like. Listen to SRV's Riviera Paradise.....sounds like honey dripping out of the speakers... creamy warm tone with wonderful depth and character. Its the sought of amp you never want to stop playing.
